Disappearance, 2013

During my final semester at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston I spent many hours contemplating empty frames. From the walls of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, to the adjacent river that runs through the Fens, I became engulfed in the lore of the 1990 heist and the mystery of the missing artwork. Creating ephemeral sugar prints, I watched the stolen images disappear in front of my eyes leaving empty frames floating down the river. Access to the MFA's archive of illustrations and prints, I was able to dig deep and find specific pieces that either influenced by or were rough drafts of the stolen artworks. My senior thesis included the book below, one of two in a series titled "Disappearance" and "Steal This Book" documenting the research, pieces, and inspired projects during the fall semester of 2013.
